Assistant Professor Position at the Division of Neural Dynamics, Department of System Neuroscience, National Institute for Physiological Sciences, National Institutes of Natural Sciences, Okazaki, Japan
National Institute for Physiological Sciences (NIPS), the National Institutes of Natural Sciences (NINS) invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor. Please recommend suitable candidates and disseminate this posting to those who wish to apply.
1. Position
Assistant Professor, one position
2. Affiliation
Division of Neural Dynamics, Department of System Neuroscience, NIPS
3. Research field
The Division of Neural Dynamics focuses on measuring biosignals in humans, such as electroencephalogram (EEG), and understanding the functional role of nonlinear dynamics, including oscillatory synchronization of biosignals, through computational analysis and mathematical modeling. In this call for applications, we are seeking candidates who can, through collaboration with Professor Kitajo, (1) measure and analyze human brain activity (e.g., EEG, fMRI) and autonomic nervous system activity (e.g., electrocardiogram), and manipulate and analyze brain activity using non-invasive brain stimulation techniques, or (2) develop mathematical models and data analysis methods using nonlinear dynamical systems theory, information theory, signal processing theory, statistical machine learning theory, and other approaches to elucidate the interaction dynamics between the brain and body. We also welcome applicants who can tackle both (1) and (2).
The successful candidate will be expected to actively engage in collaborative research with domestic and international researchers, as well as industry partners. This will be in line with the crucial mission of the NIPS as an Inter-University Research Institute Corporation. Additionally, the successful candidate will be required to engage in the organization and management of research meetings, symposia, and other relevant events, as well as in the supervision and education of graduate students as a faculty member of the SOKENDAI graduate university.
We welcome applicants with a background in systems neuroscience, computational neuroscience, or closely related fields, as well as experiences in brain activity measurement, biosignal measurement of autonomic nervous system activity, brain activity data analysis, mathematical modeling, etc. However, we welcome individuals who are eager to tackle the topics mentioned above, regardless of their background. We look forward to receiving proactive applications.
4. Qualifications
Applicants should have a doctoral degree or equivalent research achievement.
5. Period of appointment
Five years. Please note that reappointment is possible based on a performance review, but the total period of employment cannot exceed 10 years from the initial date of hire (in accordance with the institutional regulations). Details are described in the following website;
