Postdoctoral fellow in systems neuroscience at the University of California, San Francisco

Lab description:
The Chen Lab (www.chenlab-ucsf.org) at the University of California, San Francisco is seeking postdoctoral fellows to join our dynamic and interdisciplinary team in the newly established Weill Institute for Neurosciences on the Mission Bay campus. We are affiliated with the Departments of Neurological Surgery, Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, and Bioengineering and Therapeutic Sciences. Our research focus is on developing cutting-edge technologies to study brain-body physiology and to design new therapies for circuit disorders. We are looking for candidates with expertise in one or more of the following areas: systems neuroscience, neurobiology, electrophysiology, and/or neural engineering.
Job description:
As a postdoctoral fellow, you will have the opportunity to work on projects to discover therapeutic targets for intractable neurological diseases and to study brain-body pathways and behavior using various rodent models. We are looking for candidates who are interested in the neuroscience of interoception and how viscerosensory changes from the body influences brain states and behavior. We have ongoing projects to study how manipulating heart rate influences affective and learning behaviors in mice. We also work on applying synthetic biology, tissue chemistry, and computational methods to study nervous system disorders using both mouse and human tissue.
Techniques you will use may include in vitro and in vivo electrophysiology, mouse behavioral studies, optogenetics, synthetic biology, next-generation sequencing, bioinformatics, volumetric whole-brain imaging, hydrogel tissue chemistry, and viral tool design.
