Located in the heart of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area, SZBL aspires to be a world-class research institution and intellectual hub dedicated to understanding the fundamental biology underlying health and diseases.
The overarching goal of SZBL is to provide full-spectrum approaches to disease prevention and intervention from basic research to bedside. Key focuses of research include cancer, cardiovascular diseases, metabolic diseases, neurological and psychiatric disorders, and infectious diseases.
As a rapidly growing institution, SZBL has set up 14 institutes and centers (academic units), built state-of-the-art core facilities and attracted more than 90 world-class research groups with multidisciplinary backgrounds and professional expertise to push forward the vision of “Science for Global Health”. About Institute of Neurological and Psychiatric Disorders and Yamamoto team
The Institute of Neurological and Psychiatric Disorders in SZBL aims to understand pathogenic mechanisms of brain disorders including Alzheimer's disease, autism, chronic pain, depression, sleep disorder, schizophrenia, and stroke. The Institute encourages collaborations among scientists and clinicians with expertise in neuroscience, chemistry, engineering, computer science and medicine. With a better understanding of disease mechanisms, we hope to develop new ways to diagnose and treat neurological and psychiatric disease.
The aim of Yamamoto team is to reveal the mechanisms underlying neuronal activity-dependent gene expression, which is the basis of neuronal differentiation, wiring and neuropsychiatric disorders. We have studied cellular and molecular mechanisms of neuronal circuit formation in the neocortex for a long period, and based on the findings we would like to address scientifically and pathologically interesting issues.
