Research Scientist position in Systems Function & Morphology Lab, University of Toyama

In our laboratory, Systems Function and Morphology, School of Medicine, University of Toyama, we study the system which extract the important information from the environment with some distortions and process adaptively - the sensory system with a support by JST FOREST. We especially focus on mechanisms how auditory system processes meaningful sounds like communication sounds using multidiscipline approach combining molecular, anatomical, physiological, and behavioral techniques. We will combine following experiments as the occasion demands with collaborators.
  • Histology, e.g. immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization.
  • Neuroanatomical tracing using viral vectors.
  • Optogenetics and DREADD.
  • Functional imaging (in vitro/ in vivo), e.g. flavin imaging, calcium imaging, voltage imaging.
  • Electrophysiology (in vitro/ in vivo), e.g. unit recording, whole-cell recording.
  • In vivo recording using multichannel electrode and its analysis.
  • Single cell RNA-seq and its analysis.
  • Auditory behavioral experiments.
We will consider the research themes and experiments according to the researcher’s experience and talent.
It is noted that a young researcher hired by a JST FOREST project can use some of working effort for his/her own research project while working for the main theme of the JST FOREST project if the research institute allows.

  • Having Ph.D. degree or will obtain Ph.D. until end of March, 2022.
  • Being motivated for hearing research.
  • Being an expert for more than one of the techniques listed above.
  • Programming skill is not a demand, but welcomed.
  • Being motivated for developing new techniques.
  • Being cooperative with collaborators.

  • A one-year employment contract, renewable based on evaluation, to a maximum of the end of the fiscal year (March 31) in which the employee completes 5 years of employment.
  • Part-time (38h 45min per week).
  • The labor conditions are in accordance with regulations of University of Toyama.
