Laboratory
Laboratory for Neural Circuits and Behavior, Center for Brain Science
(Team leader:Andrea Benucci)

Research Field
Our lab studies the neural basis of visual perception in mice trained to perform in behavioral tasks.
Using a combination of electrophysiological, fluorescence imaging, and optogenetic tools, we aim to understand how activations of population of neurons in the visual cortex give rise to a visual percept.

Job title and Job description
Research Scientist: 1 position
The candidate will use of an all-optical methodology for the interrogation of cortical circuits. Patterned optogenetic perturbations will be combined with two-photon imaging of cortical responses during a perceptual decision-making task.

Qualifications
We seek exceptional candidates with experience in optogenetics and/or two-photon calcium imaging. Candidates should have a Ph.D. in a relevant field (e.g., Neuroscience, Biology, Computer Science, Math, Physics). Proficiency in MATLAB is necessary as well as experience working with rodents. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working in an international environment, where researchers communicate primarily in English. Qualified candidates are expected to apply for a research fellowship from domestic or international funding programs (e.g. JSPS, HFSP).
