We seek a postdoctoral research fellow to join our lab at Rutgers University-Newark, just outside New York City, to work on cognitive and clinical studies of aging, Alzheimer’s disease, and brain health in older African Americans. With funding from the National Institute on Aging at NIH, the Office of Minority Health at HHS, and the New Jersey Department of Health’s Office of Minority and Multicultural Health, we are conducting cross-sectional and longitudinal studies of risk and resilience to cognitive decline and Alzheimer’s disease in African Americans, as well as interventional studies examining how physical activity and exercise reduce biomarkers for Alzheimer’s risk. Our approach uses multiple methods including fMRI, genetics, cognitive, behavioral, fitness, sleep, and health assessments. We are also studying how age affects judgement and decision making, and the role of sleep in modulating age-related changes in learning and memory.
For additional details, lecture videos, an overview of current lab members, and downloadable publications and research summaries, see our lab web site at http://www.gluck.edu/ and our community web site for the Rutgers Aging & Brain Health Alliance at https://brainhealth.rutgers.edu/.
We seek applicants who have: (1) A strong interest and familiarity in working with minority populations; (2) Prior experience with experimental studies of behavior and/or brain function, preferably relating to memory and cognition; (3) Rigorous training and experience in statistics, data analysis, and research methods; and (4) Reside in North America, preferably with US Citizenship or Permanent Residence (“Green Card”) status.
Applicants should begin by contacting me by email to gluck@newark.rutgers.edu with a complete CV, a cover-letter addressing each of the four desiderata noted above, along with a summary of their relevant skills, background, future career goals, prior experience, and why they think they are a good fit to our research and lab (please review both our web sites). Also include a PDF sample of a published first-authored paper. Dr. Mark A. Gluck, Professor. Center for Molecular and Behavioral Neuroscience & School of Public Health.
